Margate swimmers start season in great form

Margate Swimming Club kicked off the new season with fantastic results at the Arena Prestige meet held in Durban last week.

Shebjorn Axelson (23) progressed through to the finals in all 12 of her events and produced a standout performance in the 100m freestyle event, where she went under the one-minute mark and finished third on the podium in a time of 59.26 seconds.

Danielle Smith (15) qualified for six finals with an impressive time improvement of 13 seconds in the 800m freestyle event and an exciting swim in the 200m backstroke event that saw her finish third overall and claim the bronze medal in a personal best time of 2:22.67.

Charles Thompson (14) improved his overall times by 34.71 seconds in his 200m individual medley, 100m and 400m freestyle events, while Jeandre Joubert (12) produced solid swims with an impressive 6.17-second improvement in the 100m breaststroke.

Clarisa Le Hanie (12) produced personal best times in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle events and tackled the gruelling 200m butterfly event for the first time, placing eighth in the final.

Newcomer Joanelle Herman (12) added to the team’s success by producing personal best times in all of her events and showing great technique in her first attempt at racing the 200m individual medley event.
