The fifth annual Max Mbili Community Soccer Challenge Cup came to a thrilling end at Thembisa Sports field on Boxing Day.

The action kicked off with the semi-finals, which saw Warriors FC beat Black Swallows 6-5 on penalties and Sun Shine see off Local Masters 2-1. Warriors FC went on to be crowned champions.

The tournament was a great success and was attended by thousands of community members coming from all corners of Ward 25 and the wider Ray Nkonyeni district.

The quarter-finals of the fifth annual Max Mbili Community Soccer Challenge Cup took place at Thembisa Sports field on Sunday.

The results were as follows:

1. Warriors 6 Future Stars 0
2. Black Swallows 6 Millen 0
3. Local Masters 4 Thafeni United 2
4. Sun Shine 2 Sea Eagles 1

The semi-finals and final will be played on 26 December at the same venue.

The draw was done as follows:

1. Warriors vs Black Swallows

2. Local Masters vs Dun Shine

3. The final will be played by the winners of the.semi-finals.

Gates will be opened at 9am – all community members are invited and entrance is free of charge.

EARLIER REPORT:

The fifth annual Max Mbili Community Soccer Challenge Cup is underway.

The first and second rounds of the competition took place on 16 December at Thembisa Sports field, Okhalweni, within Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The quarter-finals will be played on 22 December while the semi-finals and final are planned for 26 December as usual at the same sports field.

Community members are humbly invited to come in large numbers to witness the rare talent.

Champions will be given the following prizes:
1. R1500
2. Sheep
3. Soccer kit

While the runners-up will go away with the following prizes :
1. R500
2. Sheep
3. Soccer kit

In addition to these prizes, individual players who excel on the day will go away with extra prizes.
