They stated that they have been overlooked in all these aspects as they live in an outlying area.

The Okhalweni residents in Ward 18 received a visit from the mayor of Umdoni after the residents had pleaded for service delivery in the area.

The residents had complained of being unrepresented and had lamented the lack of services such as water, a health facility, roads and housing, development.

They stated that they have been overlooked in all these aspects as they live in an outlying area.

Parents fear for children who walk long distances through forests to reach the school.

A resident said that it was not right that because they lived in an outlying area, the municipality forgot about them.

What makes the residents angry is that soon they will see buses coming to collect them to vote at the polling stations, but that once the candidates have won their seats in council, they forget about the voters.

“We call on you, Madam Mayor, to assist us.”

Mayor Sibongile Khathi assured the residents that some relief would come to the area, but she called on the residents to be patient and not to expect everything to be done all at once.
