STATEMENT BY PORT SHEPSTONE SAPS:
On Tuesday 2014-06-10 a multi-force operation was held from 02:00 to 14:00 in Port Shepstone area. SAPS officers and members were joined by members from RTi, Protection Services and Home Affairs. The operation focused on the arrest of wanted suspects, checking for stolen and/or altered motor vehicles, searching for unlicensed firearms and ammunition, drugs, stolen property and illegal immigrants. The Bhoboyi and Murchison areas, Port Shepstone taxi rank, the bus rank and the cbd were the main target areas. Twelve people were arrested for possession of drugs ( dagga 535 grams and nine straws of heroine), 33 bottles of liquor were confiscated, and ten other people were arrested for Common Robbery, Theft, Assault Common, Intimidation , Dealing in liquor and offences under the Immigration Act. Six people were arrested and detained pending deportation. A total of 15 vehicles were inspected and two motor vehicles of which the identification numbers have been tampered with, were impounded. Two Samsung flat screen televisions and one scanner were also recovered and are suspected to be stolen. One person was arrested for that in Bhoboyi area and will face a charge of Possession of suspected stolen property.
Maj Genl Thembi Ndlovu, cluster commander of Port Shepstone cluster took the lead as commander of the operation and indicated that she will conduct these type of operations with her members on a regular basis in the policing areas of Port Shepstone cluster. Maj Genl Ndlovu also worked with her members on the ground in a similar operation in Southport policing area last Saturday.
