STATEMENT FROM PORT SHEPSTONE SAPS:
A 34-year-old foreigner who was renting a room in the Uvongo area in Margate was arrested recently by police after a high-speed chase through the streets of Margate, Port Shepstone and Uvongo.
Police in Margate received certain information regarding a suspicious vehicle and went to the Uvongo area. As soon as they saw the vehicle, a gold BMW, the driver sped off.
Police followed the car with the driver who was the only occupant. The driver refused to stop and drove at a high speed through the streets of Uvongo, then proceeding to Port Shepstone and back towards Margate.
However, the police was able to pull the vehicle off the road. Sgt Thabane Mofokeng from Port Shepstone K9 unit together with the police members from Margate SAPS, immediately noticed a white powdery substance covering the windows and seats and they arrested the suspect.
They then accompanied the suspect to his room in Uvongo where Sgt Mofokeng utilised his narcotic dog, Mura. Mura led his handler to a plastic container which was hidden in the bushes in the garden.
Two bags of cocaine weighing 0,135kg, heroine weighing 0,021 kg, two plastic bags containing CAT and 29 Ecstasy tablets were discovered in the container.
Moses Nwanko Nwainya was charged for dealing in drugs and appeared in Margate court. He was released on R20000-00 bail and will appear in court again on 19 May 2014.
