STATEMENT BY PORT SHEPSTONE SAPS UGU CLUSTER COMMUNICATION:

On Wednesday morning at about 08:00, Hibberdene police members  discovered a truck trailer near Smith Stop in Hibberdene which had been offloaded and only a few boxes were left intact. Upon several enquiries, it was established the trailer was hijacked in the Pinetown area. The trailer was taken to the Port Shepstone Vehicle Safeguarding Unit for further investigation.

Later in the evening, at about 20:00, Hibberdene Crime Prevention members were patrolling along Sipofu Road when they came across two vehicles. A single cab and a panel van were offloading some items near Kwa Mpande Stop. Police swiftly secured the arrest of three males aged between 26 and 40 years. Police believe that the sealed boxes belong to the trailer that was recovered earlier in the day.

All three suspects will appear in the Umzumbe Magistrates  court on Thursday.. They were all charged with possession of suspected stolen property. Both vehicles were also seized for investigation.

In another success, a 55-year-old man was arrested in Mtwalume after he was found in possession of an  unlicensed 303 rifle with two live ammunition. Four hundred and forty three 9mm live ammunition and twelve rounds of a bore rifle were confiscated. The man will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
