STATEMENT BY MARGATE SAPS COMMUNICATIONS:
On Friday 13 September 2019, at about 09:00 Margate police responded to a complaint at Masinenge informal settlement at Uvongo. It is alleged on Wednesday 11 September 2019 a 22-year-old woman visited her friend at Masinenge informal settlement, as well as the residence of some other male friends. However, she did not return to her friend’s home who the decided to contact the police.
Margate police with an assistance of Port Shepstone SAPS K9 members, started a searching around Masinenge informal settlement and as a result, the body was found in a shallow grave at Masinenge informal settlement.
The body was taken to government mortuary for postmortem examination. Margate detectives are investigating a murder case and no arrests have been made yet.
Margate police are appealing to the community to assist with the whereabouts of 24 year-old-man Gcinikhaya Nodipha who can possible assist the police in the investigation. Margate Station Commander, Brigadier William Slabbert has condemned gender based violence and added that the police will work tirelessly to ensure that those who are perpetrating such crimes against vulnerable members of society will be brought to book.
