MEDIA STATEMENT BY SAPS UGU CLUSTER PORT SHEPSTONE:

The public are cautioned to always allow police protocol to be performed when a loved one passes away due to unnatural causes. The police must be immediately notified before the removal of the deceased by a private funeral parlor. Police will open an inquest docket for investigation.

The cause of death must first be established by a post mortem examination at the Forensic Pathology Services before the deceased can be released to the family.

Loved ones suffer unnecessary trauma when it is discovered that the deceased died unnaturally and the necessary procedures must still be done in order to have the loved one released for burial.
