The Hibiscus Coast says the rains which lashed the South Coast recently, have caused serious damage.   All towns from Hibberdene to Port Edward, including inland areas have been severely affected.  Reports say some residents were unable to come out of their properties, roads have been washed away and some storm water systems flooded some resident’s properties.  Mayor Cynthia Mqwebu said in a statement in council last week that the municipality’s Roads Section was attending to areas where home-owners were unable to get in and out of  their properties, and the same section would conduct an overall assessment as usual to ascertain the extent of the damage for intervention through internal teams and contracted service providers.

Mayor Mqwebu said the munipality committed itself to ensuring that visitors and holidaymakers enjoy their holiday season, even if the inclement weather conditions flare up again, by being on continuous standby.   Members of the public can contact the HCM’s customer care centre when challenges arise…the contact details are 039-688-2027, during office hours only, sms line  32061   ( cost R1.50 ) and e-mail services@hcm.gov.za, both during office and after hours.

During a media briefing afterwards,  Municipal Manager Max Mbili was asked about the pot hole scourge…..
