Cde Goodwill “Gee” Rakapola, 31, died after succumbing to serious injuries during an attack on Saturday night as he walked home in ward 28 Gamalakhe.

Cde Gee as he was popularly known, was a committed and dedicated member of the ANC who gave off much of his time in service of the movement and in service of others.

His contribution towards serving his community was so well known that it earned him the nickname “Man of God.”

Not only was he active in the community, but he was an accomplished student activist who held many senior positions.

Key among these were:- In COSAS he held several positions from Local, Regional, Provincial and culminating at a National level where he was an active NWC member as part of the COSAS National Executive.

He was respected for his dynamic leadership qualities leading and advancing the cause of young people.

He also served as part YCL district leadership where his active participation saw him encourage young students to follow a line of political discipline and education.

At the time of his passing, this young rising star of the ANC was a Branch Task Team member of Ward 28 Gamalakhe – David Soboyiso Branch.

We call on the police to ensure a thorough and speedy investigation into the murder so that these criminals face the full might of the law.
