Blue Ocean Aquatics participated in the annual Beavers Swimming Championships in Durban recently.

Fifteen swimmers represented the club and were on form. They were able to improve on their times and achieve qualifying times for the national and regional championships.

Daniel Fisher won two gold medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke respectively as well as a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly. With these results, he also qualified to swim at the SA National Junior Championships in March next year.

Daena Robinson placed third in the 50m breaststroke in the 11-12 age group. She is only 11 years old and this result sees her qualify for the regional level 3 champs at the end of the season.

Nelzaan Strydom broke the five-minute mark in the 400m freestyle event and swam her way to a qualifying time for the regional level 3 champs.

Wine Koekemoer had an incredible gala with an overall improvements of 43.01 seconds on her swims. Tharien Venter improved by 22.34 seconds on her events and added to her level 2 qualifying events.

With these results, coach Mandy Koegelenberg is looking forward to what the rest of the season holds when the swimmers are truly race ready.

With the start of the season commencing, the club invites all interested swimmers to participate in the BOA Splash Gala taking place on 19 October at Creston College. For more information, visit www.blueoceanaquatics.co.za.
