Swimmers from Blue Ocean Aquatics achieved personal best times, broke records and claimed medals at the Westville Sprints this past weekend.
Ten of the club’s swimmers participated in various events in their age group and excelled at the event.
Samantha Labuschagne won four gold medals in the 50m and 100m backstroke as well as the 50m and 100m freestyle event, and silver in the 400m freestyle and 200m backstroke events.
She also broke the meet records in the 16-year-old age group for the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
Emma Kuhn clinched seven medals on her way to becoming the overall age group winner for 10-year-old girls.
She won six gold medals in 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke as well as a silver medal in the 50m backstroke and improved on her times by 15.38 seconds.
Milla Drakopoulos won a gold medal in the 50m freestyle and four silver medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley. She was also able to improve on her times by 14.48 seconds.
Michelle Kretzschmar won two gold medals for the 50m and 100m backstroke, while Keytin Voster bagged medals in the 50m freestyle as well as a gold and a bronze in the 100m freestyle.
The club is looking forward to the KwaZulu-Natal Championships taking place later this month and the Level One Provincial Championships in February.
