STATEMENT BY HCM MAYOR CYNTHIA MQWEBU:
CemAir, the airline which was appointed to fly the Margate to OR Tambo route, continues to prove sceptics wrong by posting impressive results.
CemAir has indicated that daily flights will operate to and from Margate from 28 June. Expansion is also expected to other routes in the near future.
In January additional midweek flights were introduced. The flight departs from OR Tambo International on Wednesdays at 11h00 to arrive at Margate airport at 12h30. It returns to Johannesburg at 13h00 to arrive there at 14h30.
During school holidays and the peak holiday season, flights operate between the two destinations on a daily basis, except for public holidays.
CemAir has to date flown approximately 4975 passengers, which can be quantified to an average of 15 passengers per flight.
The municipality is obviously delighted with these developments and the partnership with CemAir bodes well for the future of our tourism and business environment.
