Courageous Becket stars for Sheppie ladies hockey team despite blow to the face

The Port Shepstone ladies hockey team took on Rovers 2 on Saturday.

Sheppie went out hard from the start and proved to be formidable opponents for Rovers.

Sheppie spent the first 10 minutes in their circle, then it was Rovers’ turn to attack.

Rovers scored off a short corner when the ball rebounded to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

This saw them score a field goal by crossing the ball from the top of the circle.

The game then turned around with Sheppie spending the majority of the second half attacking.

The Sheppie ladies had a lot of circle entries but couldn’t find the back of the net, going down 2-0.

A gutsy Amy Becket (pictured) was awarded Player of the Match.

Despite receiving a ball to her face, she played outstanding hockey.

Amy Becket PSHC 2The men has to forfeit their game points as too many were attending an NCD camp ahead of the SACD tournament.

Meanwhile, the club’s thoughts and prayers are with Kris Ackermann, a past member who is in hospital recovering after an horrific accident at Compensation near Ballito.

The club reminds South Coasters to support their senior primary tournament being held at Creston College on Saturday 27 June from 9am.
