Over 3,000 people visited Dezzi South Coast Raceway on Sunday to see over 100 drivers compete in the All Out Drags Invitational.

The event, hosted by KwaZulu-Natal Drag Racing and Gas Magazine, drew drivers from as far as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Richards Bay and Pietermaritzburg, who went up against the Gutzeit-led locals.

The field comprised of an even mix of old school vehicles such as the Datsun-powered 1954 Austin Healey, Ford Prefects, and MK1 Escourts, as well as modern day street cars.

The fastest time for the day went to Leeshan Naidoo in his R35 GTR, running a 9.5 second over the quarter mile.

The fastest stock turbo went to Junaid Ally in his R35 GTR. Bradley van Rooi ran the track record for the four cylinder front wheel drive class, with his normally aspirated Honda-powered Caddy bakkie running a time of 10.8 seconds.

“We were worried about the rain, but it held off all day. The drivers managed to get four to five runs per vehicle – which is excellent racing for the day,” said Motorsport South Africa representative, Darren Lewis.

Harry Naidoo from Gas Magazine said: “Each event we’re putting on is bigger and better. The fans have been very positive in their feedback, which is encouraging.”
