Based on Sunday’s season-opening drags at Dezzi South Coast Raceway, the competition will be fierce on the quarter-mile this year.

Speedsters on two and four wheels made strong opening statements, setting the bar for what promises to be another amazing year of drag racing fuelled by KZN Drag Racing and Gas Magazine.

The fastest time of the day was 8.9 seconds, posted by motorcyclist Deon Portgieter, while the fastest time of the day for cars was a 9.9 by Karthy Naidoo.

“When we arrived on the track on Saturday, the day when the drags were initially scheduled to be held, we realised that we made a good call to move it to Sunday when it was not raining,” Yash Ori from Gas Magazine told eHowzit.

“In total, we had 77 cars that ran and there were quite a few that improved their time from the last drag race run,” she said, adding, “We would like to thank our headline sponsor Autonische, who found it very important to grow the sport down here in KZN.”
