South Coasters are invited to participate in an athletics event unlike any other at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds this weekend.
Numerous events, from a 5km fun run to a 30-hour marathon, form part of the South Coast 100 Prayer Run festivities around a 1km track.
Inspired by local pastor Daan van Niekerk, who has done solo 100km prayer runs over the past couple of years, this year’s local event is a community affair and caters for runners of all ages and fitness levels.
‘Lede in Christus Kerk’ pastor Van Niekerk, a South Coast Striders stalwart with several Comrades under his belt, will aim to run 100 laps while praying for 100 countries and 100 South Coast businesses and establishments.
It promises to be a fun weekend for the whole family with craft and food stalls and a festive atmosphere.
The Spring 10km night run (the first 50 online entries will receive a beautifully-embroidered badge) on Saturday night and the Spring 5km fun run on Sunday morning are expected to be the most popular community events.
