Passion and promise summed up the Blue Ocean Aquatics Short Distance Club Championships sponsored by Specsavers Port Shepstone that was held at Creston College Swimming Pool on Friday.

Fifty swimmers participated in various age categories and events and produced impressive performances.

The top three swimmers were awarded medals while all swimmers received points towards the end-of-season age group and Victor and Victrix trophies.

Topping the list of possible future stars were Rudi Steyn and Samantha Labuschagne, who won five gold medals each.

There’s plenty of swimming to come in the next few weeks on the national, regional and local fronts.

Samantha Labuschagne and Michelle Kretzschmar will be heading to Port Elizabeth for the South African Level Three Championships, while coach Mandy Koegelenberg will be competing in the South African Masters Championships in Johannesburg.

At regional level, Carla Kretzschmar, Britney Pieterse, Denita-Sue Pieterse, Bermatt Viljoen and Ricardo Carthew will be travelling to Sasolburg for the Level Two Championships and Emma Kuhn, Tamara Venter, Leah Wilkins, Abigail Wilkins, Rudi Steyn and Andre Steyn will be competing in the Level One Championships in Durban.

Locally, Blue Ocean Aquatics will be hosting their annual Junior Splash Gala sponsored by Status Panelbeaters at Creston College Swimming Pool this Saturday from 9am (see link to article below).
