The KwaZulu-Natal men’s coastals hockey team and Southern Gauteng played to a 1-1 draw in their much anticipated South African Country Districts Pool B clash in Limpopo on Tuesday.

It was an action-packed game with great intensity and good hockey played from both sides.

After a goalless yet highly entertaining first half, Southern Gauteng – tipped as favourites to win the pool and possibly go all the way to the final – scored a great goal from a rebound.

The Port Shepstone Hockey Club-laden KwaZulu-Natal side showed a lot of heart and got a goal back with a well-converted penalty corner by Sheppie star Warren van der Merwe, his sixth of the national tournament, to selvage a draw and maintain their unbeaten record.
