The KwaZulu-Natal ladies coastals hockey team wrapped up their South African Country Districts campaign with a resounding 5-1 win over the Eastern Province Raiders in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
The last two days of the national tournament took its toll on the coastal ladies. In their play-off match against Northern Gauteng on Friday, the ladies gave it their all, but lost the game 2-0.
Vice-captain Marike Durrheim, one of three Port Shepstone Hockey Club players in the side, was named Player of the Match.
The last day of the tournament saw the coastal ladies play the Raiders in the seventh/eighth place play-off.
KwaZulu-Natal rallied together and pulled a fantastic win out of the bag, with Megan Campbell taking the Player of the Match honours.
“It’s nice to end on a winning note,” said Durrheim. “Thank you must go to our manager Allisa Blignaut and coach Cindy Smith for all their support off the field and for everything they have done to make this a successful tournament.”
