STATEMENT BY NSRI SHELLY BEACH DEPUTY STATION COMMANDER ANTOINETTE LE ROUX:

At 12h30, Sunday, 24th February, we received notification from the Shelly Control Tower of a vessel about 4 nautical miles out reporting one outboard motor suffering motor mechanical failure and two gentlemen aged in their 30’s from Uvongo on board.

They were making their way to the backline at Shelly Beach and requested assistance from Shelly Control Tower.

We launched the sea rescue craft Shelly Spirit and rendezvoused with the 14.6 foot craft at the backline and one crewman was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and we brought him to shore and the casualty craft came in to shore under her own power on one motor.

We assisted the 2 men with the recovery of their craft onto her trailer and no further assistance was required.
