Host club Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers with Jackie Steyn and Mandy Koegenlenberg.
This year’s Blue Ocean Aquatics Junior Splash Gala was an eventful affair as a large field assembled at Creston College Swimming Pool in Oslo Beach on Saturday and served up record-breaking performances.
A total of 103 swimmers from clubs across KwaZulu-Natal were greeted with perfect conditions and made the most of it.
This year’s event, sponsored by Status Panelbeaters, debuted two events in the form of six and under and seven/eight and under kickboard races, which proved to be popular.
The top three swimmers in each event received a medal for their placing and the scores from the different events were tallied together in each age group to determine the age group winners.
There were awesome races with nail-biting finishes and four records were broken.
Vian du Plooy set a new record in the 13-year-old boys 50m freestyle event (32:62), while Marce Strydom broke three records in the 11-year-old girls 100m individual medley (1:24:44),
11-year-old girls 50m breaststroke (45:47) and 11-year-old girls 50m butterfly (38:97).
The club thanks the sponsors, parents, officials, coaches and swimmers for making the event such a success and looks forward to hosting swimmers at their next event in October.
