RNM TUESDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE ON POWER OUTAGE IN AREAS OF OSLO BEACH AND MARBURG INDUSTRIAL AREA:

On the afternoon of Sunday 10 November 2019, we experienced power outage in Oslo Beach and an investigation was conducted and at first a faulty switchgear was identified as the cause.

Our internal electricity team working with the service provider repaired the switches and working with Eskom technicians, switching was done in some areas and power was restored.

However power could not be restored in Oslo Beach as it kept on tripping and upon investigation it was established that two transformer bushings had flashover and this was due to inclement weather, that is water and moisture seeping through. Teams have been on site inspecting each switch and each transformer checking for moisture and cleaning bushings to limit risks of further flashovers and faults.

So far a burnt transformer cable with burnt bushing has been identified and the team is busy trying to isolate these and to ring feed some Oslo Beach customers from the Mbango transformer. Unfortunately not all customers can be ring fed from the Mbango Transformer due to capacity and the following customers will then remain without power for now – RNM Control Room, Crematorium, RTI/Weighbridge, Church and 8 houses along Alesund Road. Our technicians are working very hard to have the transformer and cables repaired so that power can be restored to all customers with immediate effect.

We wish to apologize for the inconvenience, our electricity teams have been working tirelessly since Sunday night and were on site the whole day yesterday and again from early this morning. They will continue working up until power is restored to all our customers.
