The “winter” holidays are never cold and boring on the KZN South Coast. It’s a time of great abundance and excitement with heaps of sensational surprises awaiting all who seek fun and games at the beach and beyond.

A family destination, the KZN South Coast caters for everyone and looking at the event line-up this holiday, if you are into diving, fishing, surfing, nature, sport, golf, bowls, mountain biking, running, motor racing, jazz, dogs and browsing at flea markets, we may just have an event that will warm your heart and keep you entertained.

On the beaches this season, you would want to make your way to Scottburgh beach (26 June, 2-5 July), Hibberdene beach (24-25 June, 27-30 June, 1 July); Margate beach (1-6 July, 13 July) and Port Edward beach (17-21 June, 27-28 June). For the first time, the holiday activations are spreading out and including the hinterland. A Mini Cricket Series and separate Soccer Series will be put on to entertain the crowds with different rounds being held in different municipalities.

The series starts on 7 July and the final race is on 22 September, participants can sign up to the whole series or for individual races if they wish.

The Maidens Ceremony on 6 July in KwaNyuswa gives those who venture into the hinterland to be part of this a rare insight into a revered Zulu cultural ceremony.

This is all while you wait for the natural spectacle of the Sardine Run, of course. Our best seats this season are for free, with all the action seen from the beach. So, follow all the sources you can find plus your gut feel, as even the experts find the silvery fish mysterious, just adding more to their star appeal.
