STATEMENT BY NSRI SHELLY BEACH:
At 09h20, Thursday, 27th December, NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach were alerted by a dive charter boat reporting to be heading towards Shelly Beach with dive crew onboard the boat conducting CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts on a 65 year old Krugersdorp man reported to have stopped breathing from unknown causes during a scuba dive.
The man had been recovered onto the dive charter boat and the dive charter crew initiated CPR and they raised the alarm alerting NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach who responded to Shelly Beach to meet the boat on her arrival.
Med-Evac ambulance services, Police Search and Rescue and the SA Police Services were activated and they responded.
On the boat’s arrival at Shelly Beach paramedics continued with advanced life support CPR but sadly after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted the man has been declared deceased.
The body of the man has been taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.
The dive charter crew are commended for their efforts.
