South Coast karateka finish KSA League on a high

The last of the KSA Karate League events for the year was held in Tongaat recently.

A group of students from Suid Natal Martial Arts Academy represented Ugu and the KZN province at this elite event, which attracts the top karateka from around the country.

Tyler Hogan won three medals – gold for team kumite, silver for kata and bronze for individual kumite in the boys junior 16/17 category.

Wian de Beer secured a silver medal in the boys 10/11 over 45kg kumite division, Divan du Toit received a bronze medal in the boys 12/13 years under 50kg kumite division and Marcel du Toit bagged a bronze medal in the boys 10/11 years under 45kg kumite division.

“I am extremely proud of all the karateka who have competed throughout the year and continually brought medals back to the Ugu Region.

“We are looking forward to the Ugu Spring Karate Championships to be held at Port Shepstone Secondary School in Marburg on 2 November,” said Ugu Karate chairman, Sensei Coenie Vrey.
