Due to the cancellation of this year’s Comrades Marathon due to the coronavirus pandemic, the South Coast Striders have decided to hold a virtual version of the iconic ultra-marathon during the week of 8 to 14 June.
Athletes who have been training for Comrades 2020 will be able to challenge themselves in a variety of events, ranging from a one-day ultra-marathon to a seven-stage run over the course of the week.
The events are:
7 day event (+ – 13km per day)
6 day event (+ – 15km per day)
5 day event (+ – 18km per day)
4 day event (+ – 22,5km per day)
3 day event (+ – 30km per day)
2 day event (+ – 45km per day)
1 day event (+ – 90km Comrades virtual race)
Team event (two participants to run 45km each)
There is no entry fee as these events are all about fun, the club said. All runners will have to adhere to the lockdown regulations in place at the time.
Participants will be given a race number which they can print out, or they could draw one by hand. To #uniteapart, participants are encouraged to share photos and videos of their runs on the South Coast Striders Facebook page.
A WhatsApp group will be formed on 1 June for runners to post photos and ask questions.
To enter, post your name and surname, gender, running club and the event you wish to enter on the South Coast Striders Facebook page. Entries close on 1 June.
