Blue Security’s tactical team arrested an alleged hijacker who jumped into a woman’s vehicle, held her up at knifepoint and then started assaulting her at an intersection in Amanzimtoti on Thursday.
Blue Security tactical ambassador Eugene Engelbrecht said the alleged hijacker was arrested at around 4.05pm yesterday after he was spotted assaulting his victim at an intersection.
“I was travelling south along Kingsway Road when I noticed a young male assaulting a woman at the Moss Kolnik intersection. I stopped at the scene and apprehended the suspect. Upon investigation it emerged that the suspect, who was armed with a large knife, had managed to jump into the woman’s vehicle and hold her up. He ordered her to drive to KwaMakhutha but she refused to comply, he then instructed to get out of the vehicle,” Engelbrecht said.
“He grabbed her handbag and jumped out of the vehicle, he then proceeded to chase after her and started assaulting her, cutting her arm with the knife. I managed to intervene and apprehended the suspect who was then handed over to the Amanzimtoti SAPS at the scene,” he said. A case of attempted hijacking was opened.
In a separate incident this morning an armed response officer was alerted via the local Community Crime Prevention Organisation’s security network to an alleged armed robbery at the Warner Beach Station this morning.” A suspect had held up a commuter and robbed him of his cellphone. Our officer responded to the scene and searched for the suspect who he had been seen running south,” Engelbrecht said.
“The officer proceeded towards the vicinity of Winkelspruit Beach where he spotted the suspect and gave chase. He managed to apprehend the suspect with the assistance of ET Rapid Response and CCPO members. A Samsung cellphone was recovered and police were alerted to the scene,” he said.
