Umtamvuna nippers make an impact

Umtamvuna Surf Lifesaving Club achieved good results in the third leg of the Nipper Carnival held on Addington Beach last Sunday.

Eight Umtamvuna nippers – Kayde and Jordan Orsmond, Kaitlyn and Keagan Ramos, Emma and Josh Burger, Ethan Cole and Donne Pretorius – competed against Marine, Durban Surf, Rox, Warnadoone and Pirates, who have between five and 10 nippers per race and per age group.

U13 competitor Donne placed seventh in the long run, while U12 competitor Josh placed fifth in the bodyboard race, ninth in the long run and 10th in the run swim run.

Kayde, competing in the U11 age group, placed third in the run swim run and won the bodyboard race. Kayde, Josh and Ethan partook in the mixed running relay, placing seventh.

Kaitlyn, also competing in the U11 age group, placed third in both the run swim run and bodyboard race and sixth in the long run.

Emma, Keagan and Jordan were in action in the U9 age group. Emma placed fourth in the long run and seventh in flags, Keagan came second in both the run swim run and bodyboard race and fourth in the long run while Jordan placed fifth in the run swim run, eighth in the bodyboard race and 15th in the long run.

Jordan, Keagan and their partner from another club competed in the mixed bodyboard relay, where they finished third.
