Local wakeboarder and retired international competitor Kevin Dry from Umtamvuna River Lodge in association with his sponsors Red Bull Energy Drinks, DC Shoes and Jobe Wakeboards gave kids from Port Edward Pre Primary and Primary School a chance to try what he does best.
It was a fun filled event with some of the top wakeboarders in the country doing demos and entertaining the crowd on Saturday. All the pros were there to show the kids how to get started, letting each kid get a chance to join in on the fun.
Dry and South African pro wakeboarder Steffan Dirkze-van Schalkwyk have designed a pulley system which winches a rider across the river, allowing a rider to wakeboard without using a boat.
“I would like to thank Steffan and all the pros for their amazing commitment for being in the water and sun all day for these kids and hope there will be a new era of wakeboarding on the South Coast soon,” said Dry.
“There has also been some hype about a wakeboarding club starting soon at Umtamvuna River Lodge. This is new and a must see for all those interested,” added Dry.
