PRESS RELEASE BY UMDONI MUNICIPALITY:
Service delivery confidence was instilled to the Dududu community on Monday when the Mayor, Cllr TW Dube officially opened the Dududu Satellite Offices aimed at creating an enabling environment for this community to actively participate in the affairs of the municipality.
These offices have been closed since the amalgamation of the erstwhile Vulamehlo and Umdoni Municipality in 2016 and their reopening follows after the municipality identified a gap of limited access to municipality by the Dududu community and surrounding areas thus reviving them to bring services closer to the people.
There was much jubilation amongst the members of the community when Mayor Dube announced that offices will operate on a full time basis from Monday to Friday from 7H30 to 16H00 and the community will have access to services which include housing, roads maintenance, waste management, Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP), traffic, fire and disaster, Local Economic Development (LED), special programmes and customer care services.
Mayor Dube further mentioned that it was imperative to bring services closer to the people as most of the rural communities are affected by the triple challenge of unemployment, poverty and inequality. “Our people should not be subjected to further poverty by spending the little that they have to reach us as a municipality. This is why we saw it fit to extend our services to the rural community so we are able to be easily reached and also respond swiftly to the communities’ needs.”
The municipality will be fulfilling its commitment made to this community during the IDP and Budget Road shows of delivering community development projects which include the Kwalembe Sports Field in Ward 1, the Pat Cele Community Hall in Ward 2, Nkampula Road in Ward 3, Mbungulu Community Hall in Ward 6 and the regravelling of Gumede Bhodla Road in Ward 19.
The excited traditional leader of Dududu community, Inkosi JM Mqadi said he appreciates and applauds the initiative by the municipality. “We are confident that this will bring a positive change in our community.”
