STATEMENT BY THE HIBISCUS COAST MUNICIPALITY:
HCM REINSTATES PRINCESS ELIZABETH DRIVE
Her Worship the Mayor of Hibiscus Coast Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu accompanied by Executive Committee members cut the ribbon last week to mark the official opening of Princess Elizabeth Drive which had undergone extensive upgrades.
The rehabilitation work was scheduled for four months, but was completed within a three months period.
The reinstatement of Princess Elizabeth Drive culvert came about as a result of damage which occurred during a storm.
The contractor, Margate Construction was appointed through a tender process to repair the damages pertaining to this project. The service provider was awarded a sum of R 1 582 487.87 and the project duration was four (4) months.
The scope of works was to demolish the fractured box culvert that had collapsed and replace it with a circular pipe of 1200 diameter as well as reinstating the road surface. The scope also included the construction of a paved walkway, grassing and installation of aesthetic concrete bollards along the seaside of the culvert.
A total of nine people were employed during the construction of this project. The project will improve accessibility to the beach line thus promote tourism.
