MONDAY STATEMENT BY UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY:
St Helen’s rock pump station operational as off 02:00; abstraction interruption experienced last night for 4 hours with salinity spike to above 200 ms/m.
Bhobhoyi plant production is at 80 MLD, salinity level is 138 ms/m and currently stable. All plant boosters including Sport and Leisure are off to build up plant level to above 75%.
Marburg system: reservoir dropped after booster shut during the night when plant was offline and booster will be started this morning to filling up and in the afternoon Esperanza should be started when Marburg is at least 50%.
Oslo Beach, Marburg, Mkholombe, Esperanza are affected due to low Marburg command reservoir and Esperanza and Masinenge supply reservoir and anticipated restoration late afternoon.
Northern system: Umzimkhulu and Albersville reservoirs being gravity fed and both climbing; Umzimkhulu command reservoir level dropped during plant shutdown. Umzikhulu tower is also filling up.
Northern Shepstone reservoir building up and most areas should start receiving water. Bulk northern main feeding Louisiana, Kwamadlala pump station, Anerly and Melville reservoir will start building up during the day as Umzimkhulu is being resupllied to reach +70%.
Gamalakhe reservoir dropped last night as Sport and Leisure were shut to stabilise the plant; low areas started receiving water yesterday; pipeline break in Sgedlaneni reported.
Southern system: Seaslopes being gravity fed and slowly climbing and projected restoration affected by supply interruption from Bhobhoyi; Ramsgate system reservoirs resupply opened but normal inflow to be attained at 60% seaslopes level currently 20% and revised restoration tomorrow. Kaisers station has just started to build up to resupply upper Margate and Nosita.
Shelly Beach, Uvongo command reservoirs are healthy.
Murchison pump station started yesterday to resupply hospital and community reservoirs.
Coastal supply opened at 05:00 am after building up plant reservoir level. Port Edward and Grassmere opened.
Hanover pump station opened to feed Kwaxolo system (Gcilima) and Izingolweni (Nkulu).
