STATEMENT BY RAY NKONYENI MUNICIPALITY:

On Friday, the Mayor of RNM, Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu and the Mayor of Ugu District Municipality Cllr Sizwe Ngcobo joined security forces in the cross border roadblock (KZN and Eastern Cape) in Port Edward. The purpose of the roadblock is to ensure adherence to Lockdown Regulations related to traveling from one Province to another. A number of motorists were found not to be carrying proper permits and were turned back to either of the two provinces.

These roadblocks are some of the mechanisms by government to limit unnecessary traveling which may contribute to the spread of COVID-19. The two Mayors also motivated members of the security forces for the demanding and extraordinary work they are doing as a contribution towards combating the spread of the virus.
