UPDATE: Water supply severely affected by load shedding – Ugu

STATEMENT BY UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY ON FRIDAY NIGHT:

St Helen’s Rock pump station is back online from 14:30 after load shedding last night. Eskom fault was rectified at 10:00 before 12:00 – 14:30 outage. Next outage is 10:00 – 12:30 tomorrow.

Bhobhoyi plant is operating at 100% capacity which was restored at 15:00 and plant level is less than 50% climbing. All plant boosters and Sport n Leisure are off to build up plant level.

Marburg system: Marburg and Oslo Beach no water complaint was due to low Marburg reservoir level after plant production interruption and reservoir will be built up overnight and to restore supply in the morning. Upper Marburg and Bhobhoyi Jesus supply stations i.e: Masinenge and Esperanza pumps are also off due to low Marburg level.

Northern system:

Umzimkhulu command reservoir is currently less than 30% and gravity fed from plant. Umzimkhulu tower pumps will start to build up tower level tonight. Feed to Northern system opened by flow will be restored when Umzimkhulu reservoir build up to 50%. North Shepstone reservoir is currently empty.. break in Sugar mill road has been repaired and water opened to low lying areas of Seapark and Tweni should start getting water and high areas will only get water when North Shepstone has more than 50% tomorrow afternoon.

Melville is empty due no supply from Umzimkhulu and Anerley reservoir slowly dropping due to low supply from Umzimkhulu. Fairview pump station affected by low Umzimkhulu level. Woodgrandge and Hibberdene supply affected by low supply from Umzimkhulu to Melville reservoir.

Stick farm pump off due Woodgrandge low level.. water relief to be provided in the interim. Louisiana, Madlala pump station are affected by low Umzimkhulu level.

Albersville reservoir feeding Port Shepstone CBD is still stable.

Southern System:

Seaslopes command reservoir is below 30% climbing slowly due to supply interruption from Bhobhoyi plant. Ramsgate South and North opened but supply is low due to low Seaslopes level: Ramsgate South and North reservoir are less than 30%. Most highlying areas will start experiencing no water.

Kaisers pumps are also off due to low Seaslopes no supply to upper Margate and Nosita. Nosita reservoir dropping below 40%.

Gamalakhe system:

Gamalakhe system: reservoir is less than 10% due supply interruption at Sport and Leisure from series of power interruptions. Target partial restoration is tomorrow morning when plant has reached 75%. Msikaba line closed.

Uvongo, Shelly Beach and Margate CBD reservoirs are still healthy.

Umthavuna system:

Plant is operational as of 14:30 after loadshedding, supply to Coastal system opened now to supply Port Edward and Palm Beach.

Hanover pump station started to feed KwaXolo and Izingolweni.

Mhlabatshane system:

Umgeni plant opened supply to Mehlomnyama command reservoir. Dweshula is closed to divert water to lower supply area. Limited supply from the bulk system impact supply and restoration which results in some areas without water for many days. Confirmation of production increase in due course to stabilise supply has been advised.

Kwahlongwa system: plant operational.

N.B. Time frames for system restoration is depended on Eskom loadshedding stage downgrade or upgrade.

Water relief will be provided as soon as the filling points pressure has been restored.

STATEMENT BY UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY ON FRIDAY MORNING:

St Helen’s Rock pump station offline: Load shedding implemented last night at 20:00 and power was scheduled to be restored at 22:30, however it was not restored.

Fault was attended by Ugu electrician at midnight and also reported to Eskom. Call logged and technician dispatched at 8 this morning. Supply to many areas has been severely affected by this and consumers are advised that as long as we still experience power outages supply will be interrupted.

The next load shedding is between 12:00 – 14:30 which will again affect production.

Bhobhoyi plant is currently operating at 70% capacity from storage dam and plant reservoir level is still less than 40%, All plant boosters and Sport and Leisure are off to build up plant level.

Marburg system: Marburg and Oslo Beach supply system will experience low pressure and some areas will have no water due to low Marburg reservoir level after plant production interruption.

Upper Marburg and Bhobhoyi Jesus supply stations i.e: Masinenge and Esperanza pumps are off due to low Marburg level.

NORTHERN SYSTEM:

Umzimkhulu command reservoir is currently less than 20% and gravity fed from the plant.. Umzimkhulu tower pumps are also off due to low Umzimkhulu level. Feed to Northern system opened by flow will be restored when Umzimkhulu reservoir build up to 50%. North Shepstone reservoir is empty due to a break in Sugar Mill and repairs to continue today and supply will be opened upon completion.. This will affect Tweni supply zone.

Melville is empty due no supply from Umzimkhulu and Anerley reservoir slowly dropping due to no supply from Umzimkhulu. Fairview pump station is also affected by low Umzimkhulu level. Woodgrandge and Hibberdene supply will be affected by low supply to Melville reservoir.

Uvongo, Shelly Beach and Margate CBD reservoirs are still healthy.

UMTHAVUNA SYSTEM:

Plant is operational as from 22:30, supply to Coastal system was closed to build up plant level and will be opened this morning.
