STATEMENT FROM UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY ON SUNDAY MORNING 20.10:

URGENT NOTICE- BOBOYI PLANT SUPPLY CAPACITY SERIOUSLY STRAINED

St Helen’s Rock pump station raw water salt content has spiked to over 150 ms/m which close to 170 ms/m maximum permissible limit according to regulations

As a result, the Pump station has shutdown, inflow to Bhobhoyi has stopped and production has been suspended until salt levels drops to acceptable levels. 30min Interval testing is underway and being carried out

Team will attempt to open up Umzimkhulu river mouth after 08:00 although this might not yield the desired result due to low river flow

The following Systems are affected and have to reduce water usage drastically:

North Shepstone and Melville
Anerley
Gamalakhe

Seaslopes system line to Ramsgate

Kaizers going to Margate and Marburg
Communities are urge to conserve water
