STATEMENT BY UGU DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT:
St Helen’s Rock pump station:
Abstraction pump station operational; salinity level is stable below the maximum limit. Today there was a planned 6-hour shutdown to conduct repairs on the bulk raw water main feed line from dam to the plant at repairs concluded by 13:30 and supply to plant opened.
The tides have now receded which has limited impact on abstraction.
Bhobhoyi plant production resumed at 13:00 after shutdown; plant level is picking up now at 50% and at 70% all plant boosters will be started up.
Marburg system: Marburg reservoir is 20%; Marburg booster will be started tonight to bulid up level overnight to resupply Marburg and Oslo beach. Upper Marburg and Bhobhoyi Jesus water restored last night and pumping to Esperanza will resume early tomorrow morning.
Umzimkhulu command reservoir is currently less than 30% due to interrupted supply during shutdown but reservoir is climbing now; Umzimkhulu tower pumps running. Feed to Northern system opened North Shepstone reservoir and 525 main to Melville; full pressure to build at 50%. Woodgrandge no water now due to low Melville level still recovering and full restoration expected on Thursday. Southport break in kloof completed and water opened.
Albersville reservoir feeding Port Shepstone CBD is still stable.
Seaslopes command reservoir is above 50% and feed to Ramsgate South opened and anticipated system recovery in the morning and high lying areas in the afternoon latest. Kaisers pumps still feeding upper Margate and Nosita; system full recovery expected on Friday latest.
Gamalakhe system healthy most areas restored on Tuesday.
Uvongo, Shelly Beach and Margate CBD reservoirs are still healthy.
Plant is operational; and feeding inland and Coastal system.
Hanover pump station and Coastal supply opened.
Port Edward supply line opened and Port Edward reservoir above 80%; most areas have water and break on 6th will be attended in the morning.
Inland supply opened to Izingolweni and KwaXolo.
Umgeni plant opened supply to Mehlomnyama command reservoir. Dweshula is closed to divert water to lower supply area. Limited supply from the bulk system impact supply and restoration which results in some areas without water for many days.
Kwahlongwa system: plant operational.
