Ugu District Municipality has informed residents of Ramsgate and surrounding areas that the water supply interruptions experienced before the weekend were caused by power outages. This led to a reduction of water supply from the water treatment works, and the storage in distribution reservoirs was adversely affected.
The reservoir levels were so low such that the supply in the pipeline network was compromised; the technicians were deployed to work around the clock in resolving the challenges. Water tankers were dispatched to the affected areas.
The reservoir levels have now picked up and water is available in all of our networks except the high lying areas that by Monday had not yet been fully restored. This problem was also exacerbated by cable theft at one of the supply reservoirs. Ugu says it has been stabilizing the system and all areas should have been back on line by late Monday.
At Ugu’s recent Joint Operations Committee meeting it was noted that Scottburgh areas are also likely to experience water supply interruptions due to the technical problems being experienced on the mainline. Technicians are working around the clock to resolve this challenge.
“We however urge consumers to conserve and use water sparingly whilst technicians are fixing these technical problems.”
Ugu offers its apologies and regrets the the inconveniences incurred as a result of water supply interruptions experienced over the weekend.
Water Awareness Tip:
“Please ensure that all water dispensing outlets are closed at all times especially during a water outage.”
