Olkers does Margate Country Club proud

Last week, SAPS player and member of Margate Country Club Wilna Olkers, participated in the SAPS Golf Nationals held at Potchefstroom Golf Club.

Playing in a medal format over three days, Wilna won the ladies silver medal for coming second in the gross division and a bronze medal for her third place in the nett division. With her impressive results, Wilna has been selected to represent the SAPS National Team.

The ladies “back home” played their Tuesday competition in a betterball format, kindly sponsored by Connie McArthur. Wondra Bothma and Lesley Erasmus won the day with 42 points, followed by Jane Davies and Dawn Howden in second place on 41 points. Anita Scheepers and Beryl Williamson secured third place with 39 points on a count out.

The Club 100 played an individual point scoring format and was won by Frik van Zyl with 36 points, while Flip Fourie came second on 35 points. The Wobblers’ alliance with two to count was won by Johan Hulshof, Brian Jeffreys and Bob Weanie with 86 points. Peter Hunter, Freddie Boshoff and Rob McGill came second on 85 points, while third place went to Keith Pearson, Alan Davies and Thys Bothma with 83 points. The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Frank Merrill, Dolf Willemse and Andre Henn on 70 points.

The Pro Shop day, played in an individual point scoring format, was won by Ron Scowby with 41 points, followed by Dawn Howden in second place on 39 points. Closest to the pins on the fourth and 16th holes went to Johan Stoltz and Johann Erasmus respectively.

Saturday’s club competition was won by Dolf Willemse and Graeme Massam on 46 betterball stableford points. Second place, on a count out with 45 points, went to Ivan Curlewis and Pierre Malherbe. Another count out determined third place which went to Alan Halvorsen and Thys Bothma, also on 45 points. Ron Scowby was the closest to the pin on the fourth and at the 16th was Graeme Massam.

The ladies competition was an alliance with two to count and won by Maureen Pitcher, Hannetjie Pretorious and Lesley Erasmus with 81 points.
Second place went to Maureen Ogilvie, Agnes Spielmann and Anita Scheepers on 80 points. Good luck to the men and ladies teams participating in their Inter Club competitions this coming weekend.
