Ugu doesn’t have much infrastructure left, roads are not maintained properly and workmanship is often terrible, with some potholes filled with sand.

We have being living in Scottburgh for almost 40 years. My children grew up here.

This December on their visit to us they were shocked at the condition of our town.

During the first part of December there were water interruptions in Scottburgh on a daily basis, this during a pandemic where people need water.

Ugu doesn’t have much infrastructure left, roads are not maintained properly and workmanship is often terrible, with some potholes filled with sand.

Streetlight poles have been left lying on grassy areas outside people’s homes.

Some areas, like Park Rynie, have not had streetlights for years.

The public toilets in Scottburgh are in a disgusting state.

I spoke to people who were on holiday in our town and asked for feedback.

Guess what they said? They will never come back to our town.

Twenty-six years of democracy… and no budget was made for any of these items I highlighted above.

People are withholding rates and one can hardly blame them. Who wants to pay rates for no service delivery?

Do you want your town to be restored to what it was before or are you prepared to let your once beautiful town go to the dogs?

My plea to everyone is let’s stand together and get it back to what it was before.
