Last week’s rainy weather kept many golfers off the course at Margate Country Club and sadly mostly on the competition days.

However, this did not scare the ladies away on Tuesday and they played a better ball format which was won on a count out, by Lynn Meek and Maureen Pitcher with 45 points. Second place went to Wondra Bothma and Dawn Howden also on 45 points.

The Club 100 played an individual point-scoring format and Frik van Zyl won the day with 38 points, while Adriaan Lemmer secured second place on 36 points.

Wednesday saw the Wobblers play an alliance with two scores to count and Thys Bothma, Nico van Vuuren and Eddie Gommersall were victorious with 81 points.

Rolf Spielmann, Frank Merrill and Alan Davies came second, on a count out with 80 points. Loosing the count out and coming third were Konnie Konrad, Bob Weanie and Andre Henn also on 80 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Otto Mutschler, Wimpie Jordaan and Piet Pretorius with 76 points. Carlos Pereira had an amazing round on Thursday, winning the Pro Shop’s competition with a fabulous 44 points in an individual point-scoring format.

It was Carlos’s best-ever round at Margate golf course and his third-lowest round overall. An indication of how small the field was due to the bad weather, Robin Shuttleworth claimed nearest to the pins on both the fourth and 16th holes.

The club hosted the Business Day competition on Friday, played in an alliance format and winning the day were Johan Erasmus, Leon Olivier, Frik van Zyl and Dries with 84 points. Second place went to Wimpie Jordaan, Ernie Janse, Rolf Spielmann and Agnes Spielmann on 83 points. Once again nearest to the pin on the fourth went to Robin Shuttleworth, but pipping him on the 16th was Connie McArthur.

The Saturday club competition, played in an individual point-scoring format, was won by Arthur Ehlert with an impressive 42 points. Second place went to Frik van Zyl with 39 points, while Robin Shuttleworth secured third on 38 points.

Lucky for the rest of the field, there were no nearest to the pin prizes, but winning the lucky draws were Graeme Massam and Sydney Shingange. Last but not least, Margate Country Club would like to welcome new member Colin Penny and we wish him many hours of great golfing on our lovely course.
