Port Shepstone Lions, Lion Ladies and their guests attended the club’s 50th Presidential Induction and Awards Dinner at their new Lions Clubhouse facility at Port Shepstone Country Club on Saturday.

Special guests at the event included Scottburgh Lions Zone 10 (South Coast) Chairman Colin and Lion Carol Mackintosh, Kyle and Whitney Enslin and prospective Lion Gustav Lindenberg with his partner Kaye.

During his valedictory speech, Club President Alister Love paid tribute to both the Lions and Lion Ladies for another successful year of service to the needy despite the setbacks created by the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

He then announced that the Lion of the Year Trophy is to be awarded to Lion Kevin Ross (pictured top right) in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the new Lions clubhouse facility.

Presidential appreciation medals were also awarded to Past Council Chairman Denis Meyer and Past Presidents Jean Masson and Kevin Ross in recognition of their support and assistance throughout the past year.

Long service awards were presented to Lions Hilton Horsley (35 years of service), Denis Meyer (25 years of service) and Jean Masson (20 years of service).

Appreciation medals were also awarded to past Club Secretary Kevin Ross and Club Treasurer Richard Borradaile in recognition of their fine efforts.

11 Club members were presented with award pins commemorating 100% attendance of club meetings throughout the past year.

Outgoing Lion Lady President Irene Love thanked the Lion Ladies for their ongoing projects in support of the needy.

The Lion Lady of the Year award was presented to Lion Lady Lyn Curnow. Special appreciation gifts were also presented to Lion Ladies Secretary Cathy Volker and Lion Ladies Treasurer Jane Massey in recognition of their fine efforts and support.

District Governor Jeff Smith, who is also a member of the Port Shepstone Lions Club, then formally inducted Lion Mike Heathcote as Club President for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.

In his acceptance speech, Lion Mike thanked his predecessor for his leadership of the club and undertook to further promote membership growth, increased service and fellowship activities for the forthcoming year.
