Locals came out in numbers to support the Lower South Coast SPCA in Friday’s golf day at San Lameer.

The day raised approximately R26 000 and players also donated pet food in the wake of the devastating distemper outbreak that resulted in the death of 73 dogs.

The winners of the betterball stableford were Johan Neethling and Deon Meyer.

Peter Leeming and Gary Purtell placed second, Eddie Ringo and Russel Freeman third, Jesse Venter and Peter Wright fourth and Trevor Morris and Anton Hauptfleisch fifth.

The nearest to the pin prizes went to Johan Neethling (4th), Eddie Dingo (9th), Tyrone Morris (14) and Peter Howard (16th), while the longest drive prizes sponsored by Engen Mall Convenience on the third hole were won by Neal Hauptfleisch and Alecia Hilt.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors for their contribution to make this a very successful day.  Your generosity will go a long way in assisting the Society in this tough economic climate,” said Lower South Coast SPCA fund-raising co-ordinator Dalene Erasmus.

“Sonia van Niekerk Maharaj got ladies together and they did all the catering – it was awesome! We cannot thank everyone enough – from donating a bottle of wine up to a holiday.”

Donations can be paid into the LSC SPCA Bank Account:
