On 01 January 2020, the Mayor of RNM (Cynthia Mqwebu) took time to visit beachgoers within Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

She took her time to visit and talk to beach patrons and Law Enforcement members at Port Edward Silver Beach, Margate Beach, St. Michael’s Beach and Port Shepstone Beach.

She would have loved to visit as many as possible, but due to the rainfall, she only managed to visit the four.

She spoke to several people of different ages, asking them whether they were enjoying themselves or not and if they feel safe on our beaches, of which the response was a positive one.

She was also advising them, especially the young ones, to enjoy responsibly and to behave themselves. Among those that she spoke to were from Gauteng, Eastern Cape, in other towns of KZN, within the Ugu District and all over Ray Nkonyeni Municipality. Patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves even though it started to rain after 14h00.

The Mayor was pleased with the turnout at our local beaches besides the inclement weather. She’s convinced that local economy did get some boost as a result of the attendance she observed.

Besides speaking to patrons, she also congratulated Law Enforcement members for the sterling work they were doing as there were no major incidents reported.
