PHOTOS: Sheppie High hosts first Women’s Sport Tournament

August is Women’s Month and Port Shepstone High School hosted their very first Women’s Sport Tournament recently.

The girls took part in basketball, volleyball, soccer, hockey, netball and chess against various schools.

The event was a great chance to acknowledge the influence of sport participation for girls, and to honour the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.

Athletics: Results from the inter-school meeting held at Kingsway.
17 learners were entered and the best results were from:
Nkosazana Mchunu: first U14 in 400m and 800m.
Philelinkosi Shozi: first in U15 800m and second in 1500m.
Luthando Shezi: first in U16 800m.
Ntsikeleo Lubhelwana: first in U16 1500m.
Amahle Mchunu, Okhule Myende, Nande Sikutshwa and Amahle Ngcobo were first in girls U14 4 x 100m relay.
Our athletes also achieved six second places, and five third places.

Golf vs Suid-Natal: won 3 and drew 1.

Girls soccer vs Amanzimtoti: U14 won 4-0, U16 won 2-0, 1st team won 4-1.

Girls soccer vs Crawford La Lucia: 1st lost 2-1, U16 won 2-1, U15 lost 2-1, U14B won 5-0, U 14A lost 1-0.

Boys soccer vs Amanzimtoti: U14 lost 1-2, U15 won 1-0, U16 won 2-0, 1st team won 2-0.

Girls basketball: U16 vs Inanda won 16-3, 1st vs Danville won 14 -13.

Soccer vs St Benedicts: U16 girls lost 2-0, 2nd team boys won 4-0.

Boys age group soccer tournament: U14 lost in the semi-finals, U16 boys placed 5th but lost in the quarter final, U19 lost and were placed 5th.
