CrossFit Wild Coast held a fundraiser in aid of needy children on Thursday.

Members of the Manaba-based box worked up a sweat in a 12-hour assault bike challenge to raise funds for the Give a Child a Family Foundation.

The event was the brainchild of star South Coast mountain biker Megan Bircher.

“I thought of an idea to support charity and challenged twins Jaryd and Tyler Robertson to do it with me,” explained the passionate CrossFit Wild Coast member.

“We started at 5:30am and rode until 5:30pm. We all rode an average of 300km and burnt just under 5000 calories each.

“It was a great day; the whole box got involved with four sponsor bikes. People sponsored hour slots and challenged each other to see who could burn the most calories.

“At the end of the day, we raised just under R9 000 for the Give a Child a Family Foundation,” she added.
