Southcity Christian College held its combined Grade 12 final assembly and 2020 prize-giving ceremony last Wednesday.
Top achievers in academics and sport were honoured and good leadership was celebrated.
The deputy heads Ethan Saunders and McKayla du Bruyn opened the proceedings centering the school’s thoughts on God and His sustaining hand.
Sarah-Joy Pringle, the 2020 head girl, delivered a delightful speech, meandering through the valuable experiences gained by the matric class of 2020, despite the pandemic.
Jeandre Joubert encouraged the audience with the words of Mahatma Gandhi: “You must be the change you wish to see”, emphasing that joy should not depend on circumstances, which change constantly, but rather should be rooted in Jesus Christ.
Wendy Lourens, the school headmistress, expressed her sincere thanks and admiration of how the staff, pupils and parents of Southcity had overcome the hurdles this year presented.
Pringle was the top achiever for the year and received awards for Student of the year and DUX and many other subject awards.
Joubert received the Silver Wreath Plate for service above self and second place in Grade 12, together with merit subject awards.
The Top Sportswoman and Man of the Year were awarded to McKayla du Bruyn and Gareth Pieterse for their consistently high sporting achievements.
Many other learners were also honoured for their hard work in all spheres of the school.
The occasion ended with the announcement of the 2021 leadership group.
