Gender-based violence (GBV) cannot be fought by government alone; all stakeholders and community members have a role to play in eradicating the scourge of abuse against children and women.

Stop and think for a second! How many women and innocent children have died at the hands of their loved ones? Am I doing enough to protect my mother? My wife? My children or someone known to me?

On Friday, Ugu Mayor Councillor Sizwe Ngcobo, Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Buti Manamela, Umzumbe Mayor Councillor Londolo Zungu and Speaker Matho Shozi together with law enforcement authorities took the initiative to lead a march against GBV in Mtwalume area.

They also took part in a community dialogue meant to help empower, with knowledge, community members and discuss ways to eradicate GBV as part of marking the start of the 16 days of activism campaign.

Know someone who is being abused? Don’t just look away, report such matters to relevant authorities. It starts with you!
