“Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural.

“It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great. YOU can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”

These words based on Nelson Mandela’s speech for the “Make Poverty History” campaign, were spoken by Port Shepstone High School grade 10 learner Thando Mthembu to the school recently.

She added that at Sheppie High, we must aim to be part of the solution, never the problem and that this project is based on ubuntu.

The Winter Warmth Drive started at the end of July and we had a phenomenal response from the learners.

Mrs Tasnim Gangat and her team shared the collection amongst organisations in need. One such organisation was the Genesis Centre.
