The Proteas will be taking a ruthless approach in the upcoming two-match T20 International series against Pakistan starting in Johannesburg today.

Faf du Plessis and his troops are on a high following a 2-0 series win in the UAE, and will be upping the tempo at the Wanderers Stadium.

“They (Pakistan) are desperate as a team to put in some good performances,” Du Plessis said.

“They are under pressure to put some things right, especially from a bowling point of view.

“From our side, it’s important that we don’t give them a sniff in these two games coming up. If we can make sure we keep our foot on the gas, the pressure will get to them.”

The Proteas performed like a well-oiled unit in both their matches against Pakistan, but Du Plessis would still like to see progressive improvement in all three departments from the team, especially winning moments under pressure.

“I think we have shown a lot of improvement in all forms of our style of play,” he said.

“The batting has been good, our bowling plans have been excellent and for me it’s important that we keep doing that well.

“I would like us to have two tough games against Pakistan.

“It’s nice to win but it’s also important for us to play in more pressure situations.

“As a team we need to make sure that we can compete and do our best when the pressure is on us.”

The Proteas’ selectors face a selection conundrum ahead of the series, particularly with the bowling unit, which has fired in all departments.

“It’s a tough one,” Du Plessis said of rotating players.

“Conditions do change, and you have to look at which players are best suited for the conditions.

“You also have to look at which combinations have been doing well; you have to find that balance.

“For me it’s about looking at where the World Cup will be played; I won’t be looking to change all the time.

“You play the team on the day you feel is best suited but in saying that it’s also about the sub-continent and the conditions there.”
